Swim Across Texas July Challenge
The Anderson Mill Limited District Aquatics department challenged its staff of 63 lifeguards and coaches to keep fit to maintain excellence in performance of their lifesaving skills. The challenge was to “Swim Across Texas” in the month of July. The 801 mile route was theoretically along IH 10 from El Paso to Orange, Texas – it is the equivalent of 51,576 lengths of the El Salido Pool. Each day the lifeguards would do their laps before or after their shifts or during breaks, and report their number of laps to Pool Manager Melinda White. Melinda would track the mileage on a large map of Texas to show the progress. The goal was 801 miles and they achieved 818 miles.
