Please come out to Harper Park and visit our upgraded playground area!
In 2013 the AMLD Board of Directors: President, John Kiracofe; Vice President, Cindy Ottenbacher; Secretary, Fred Grampp; Treasurer, Bill Burke; and Assistant Secretary/Treasurer, Fred Morgan, implemented a plan to upgrade our existing facilities throughout the neighborhood and bringing many of the older playgrounds in to ADA compliance. Several of the playground pieces were approaching the end of their safe, useful, life expectancy. In the 2014 fiscal year El Salido Park and Mill Run Park received upgrades that included: upgrading existing equipment, increasing the footprint of the playground area and adding new equipment. These upgrades were all completed within the budget amount set by Board of Directors.
This year Harper Park has received upgrades above and beyond Mill Run and El Salido Park due to the age of the equipment. The approved 2016 budget for the Harper Park upgrades is $120,000. The project received a grant of $40,000. And the total cost to AMLD for the Harper Park was completed under budget. The Parks Committee met several times to agree upon the new equipment and layout of the Harper Park upgrades. The Parks Committee consists of: Cindy Ottenbacher, Vice President of the AMLD Board of Directors; Mike Chaney, resident of AMLD; and John McDowell, resident of AMLD. Harper Park had some of the oldest, (20+ years), equipment in the neighborhood. The 5-12 age playscape structure was in need of replacement and the swing set structure was not sufficient for the new type of swings and amount of swings in the new plan. The 2-5 playscape structure, most of the cement border and picnic tables have all remained in place. And Harper Park will receive landscape improvements around the playground to allow for proper drainage, several seating areas, and a trail that surrounds the playground for easy access.
Harper Park: 9.3 acres is located at Lake Creek Pkwy & Deerbrook Trail and extends on the North side of Lake Creek Parkway up to near Bristle Oak Trail.
